Lawson D’Ath sees red as crisis-stricken Northampton are beaten by Cambridge
Lawson D’Ath was sent off as a crisis-stricken Northampton Town were beaten by Cambridge United in League 2.
Harrison Dunk and Barry Corr gave United a two goal lead with efforts either side of the break, before Marc Richards pulled one back from the penalty spot on the hour mark when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was fouled.
But in a week of despair for the Cobblers, who have been issued a winding-up petition, their hopes of a comeback was soon extinguished when D’Ath was shown red for a late lunge on Dunk.
The result sees Chris Wilder’s side drop to ninth place in the league and are now a point behind Carlisle United in the final play-off position.
